For one week each January, the Erath County Junior Livestock Show becomes more than a competition—it becomes a celebration of agriculture, community, and the next generation of leaders.
The 2026 show welcomed hundreds of exhibitors, volunteers, families, and supporters for seven days of early mornings, long hours, and unforgettable moments. From first-time exhibitors stepping into the ring to seasoned seniors competing in their final county show, the week reflected the dedication and hard work that define Erath County's agricultural community.
Throughout the week, exhibitors showcased projects across dairy, beef, swine, goats, lambs, rabbits, poultry, horses, and agricultural mechanics. While championship banners and buckles marked outstanding accomplishments, the true success of the show was found in the countless lessons learned beyond the show ring. Every exhibitor demonstrated responsibility, sportsmanship, perseverance, and pride in representing their 4-H clubs and FFA chapters.
The week concluded with one of the community's most anticipated traditions—the Sale of Champions. Thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses, buyers, and supporters, the auction raised a record-breaking $888,945, with Lot 1 selling for a record $41,000. These investments represent far more than livestock projects; they support scholarships, reward months of dedication, and encourage young people to continue pursuing excellence both inside and outside the show ring.
None of this would be possible without the volunteers who spend months planning the event, the superintendents and judges who ensure each competition runs smoothly, the buyers who invest in local youth, the sponsors who make the show possible, and the parents, coaches, agriculture teachers, and Extension agents who support exhibitors every step of the way. Their collective effort creates an event that continues to grow while remaining rooted in its mission of developing tomorrow's agricultural leaders.
The 2026 show honored the legacy of Jerry Singleton, whose decades of service helped shape the Erath County Junior Livestock Association into what it is today. As president, board member, mentor, and advocate, Jerry dedicated countless hours to creating opportunities for local youth.
As the gates close on another successful year, the memories extend far beyond championship photographs. They live in the friendships built in the barns, the lessons learned through hard work, the encouragement shared between competitors, and the unwavering support of a community that believes in its youth.
The countdown to January 2027 has already begun, and with it comes another opportunity to celebrate the traditions, leadership, and community spirit that continue to make the Erath County Junior Livestock Show one of the county's most meaningful annual events.
