What we are all about:

The Erath County Junior Livestock Show is a long-standing tradition rooted in agriculture, youth leadership, and community support. For more than 60 years, ECJLS has provided Erath County 4-H and FFA members the opportunity to exhibit their livestock projects, develop responsibility and work ethic, and showcase the results of months of dedication in the barn and show ring.

Erath County has a deep agricultural heritage shaped by farming, ranching, and dairy operations, and ECJLS reflects that legacy. What began as a local stock show has grown into one of the most meaningful annual events in our community, bringing together exhibitors, families, ag teachers, Extension agents, volunteers, buyers, and donors who all share a commitment to supporting the next generation.

The show was first held at Stephenville City Park, later moved to Tarleton State University, and eventually found its home at the current FM 2157 location. That location was made possible through land donated by community members in the early 1960s, reflecting the kind of local investment that still defines the show today. Originally sponsored by the Agriculture Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, ECJLS is now conducted by the Erath County Livestock Association’s Junior Livestock Show Committee and powered by volunteers who give countless hours to make the event possible each year.

Over the decades, ECJLS has continued to grow in both size and impact. In the early days, around 90 animals of all species were exhibited. Today, ECJLS is about more than banners and buckles. It is about teaching responsibility, sportsmanship, leadership, and pride in a job well done. It is about preserving the values of agriculture while creating opportunities for young people to learn, compete, and be rewarded for their hard work. From first-time exhibitors to senior showmen, ECJLS remains committed to supporting the youth, livestock, and legacy of Erath County. This community-focused mission is also reflected in newer efforts like the ECJLS Junior Board, launched in 2023 to help students gain leadership and show-management experience.
